Dates to remember in January:

1/8 (Mon) – School Resumes from Winter Break

1/9 (Tues) – Coffee with the Principal: Come join Principal Biddy for coffee in Room 5 at 8:40 a.m.

1/10 (Weds) – Teacher Planning Day: 1st through 5th grade students will be dismissed at 1:40 p.m. No supervision for students after 2 p.m.

1/15 (Mon) – School Closed for Martin Luther King Holiday. School resumes Tuesday, Jan. 16.

1/18 (Thurs) - PTA Meeting at 6:30 p.m. in Room 5. All parents are invited to participate!

1/18 (Thurs) - SSF Unified District School Board Meeting, 7 p.m., Baden High School gym, 825 Southwood Dr., SSF.

1/22 (Mon) - ELAC Meeting at 8:45 a.m. in Room 5. ELAC members help advise the principal and school staff on programs and services for English learners. Volunteers needed. Contact Principal Biddy at (650) 877-8784 if you are interested in volunteering.

1/24 (Weds) – Teacher Planning Day: 1st through 5th grade students will be dismissed at 1:40 p.m. No supervision for students after 2 p.m.

Cash Donations – PTA is a non-profit and money you donate is tax deductible! If you, your company or your employer are looking for organizations to donate to before the end of the year consider Sunshine Gardens.  

Box Tops For Education - Sign up at, type in “Sunshine Gardens” and help earn money for school programs. For questions, contact coordinator Tamara Zubic at – Sign up with Sunshine Gardens as your school and a percent of the money you spend will be donated to Sunshine Gardens

Mighty Nest - Sign up to support Sunshine Gardens with your purchases under the “join now to support your school” and a % of the money you spend will be donated to Sunshine Gardens.

Please join our PTA meetings.  This is an opportunity to meet other parents and support Sunshine Gardens.  The Principal and a teacher representative attend.    

Our PTA offers many opportunities for you to become involved at Sunshine Gardens.  We have many committees where you can serve as a chairperson or as a committee member.  PTA can only do the wonderful things they do if they have volunteers to help!  We need you!

PTA Job Descriptions

PTA Officer and Committee Chair Positions Our children's success depends upon parents volunteering their time. Whether it is in the classroom or in the office, whether you can commit to a year long position or just a few weeks in the year, you will be appreciated! Contact us if you see something you would like to do. The following are brief descriptions of the leadership positions available to parent volunteers at Sunshine Gardens through the PTA. EXECUTIVE BOARD President - Lead the school PTA toward specific goals chosen by the membership. The President must attend the following monthly meetings: Sunshine Gardens Executive Board, Sunshine Gardens Full PTA, 1-2 SSFUSD PTSA Council meetings. Exec. Vice President - Serve as the primary aide to the President. Perform the duties of the President in the absence or disability of that officer to act. Attend Sunshine Gardens Executive Board, Sunshine Gardens Full PTA, 1- 2 SSFUSD PTSA Council meetings. Secretary - Attend and keep an accurate written record of the proceedings of all meetings of the Sunshine Gardens PTA and the Executive Board in a bound book, which is the legal record of the PTA. Perform such other duties as may be delegated. Treasurer - Keep such permanent books of account and records of all receipts and the disbursements perform all bookkeeping and accounting functions of the PTA. Prepare all financial reports, pay all authorized bills, and present monthly financial reports at the monthly Executive Board and Association meetings. School Historian - compile pictures and rosters of events in a scrapbook, submits to SSFUSD, tracks and reports volunteer hours. ON-GOING PROJECT COMMITTEES Box Tops/Soup Labels - collect and submit for money/merchandise E-Scrip - assist parent enrollment in shopping fundraising programs Hospitality - set up, decorate and organize food for school events such as 1st day of School, Teacher Appreciation and PTA Meetings. Yearbook - collect photographs and design layout for yearbook EVENT or SHORT-TERM PROEJCT COMMITTEES Auditor - audit PTA financial records (Jan. & July) Book Fair - attend Scholastic Book Fair Workshop, schedule volunteers, set up books when delivered, promote and work at the book fair, and prepare a financial statement at the end of the book fair. (Spring) December Gift Shop – Manage “shop” for one week, create flyers, track sales and complete final report, manage volunteers. Harvest Festival - organize volunteers, activities, food and donations (Oct.) Fall Fundraiser- Create flyer’s, distribute information, collect orders, disseminate sales items. (Oct.-Nov) Movie Nights – Create flyer’s, book cafeteria, organize food sales, volunteers. (Sept, Nov, Jan, Mar) Reflections Program for the Arts - collect & submit student entries (Oct. & Jan.) School Pictures - sort pictures & prepare students for pictures (Fall & Spring) Spell-A-Thon – Create flyer and sponsor sheet, copy, collect and record participants. Spirit Wear – Create/print flyers, Pre-order in summer based on prior year, 1st day of school sales and distribution, Manage sporadic order throughout the year. Spring Fundraiser - Create flyer’s, distribute information, collect orders, disseminate sales items. (Mar.-April) Teacher/Staff Appreaciation meals - organize breakfast 1st day of school and a lunch during staff appreciation week. (Aug./May) Academically Involved Parents = Academically Successful Students With your volunteerism these programs continue to thrive and grow. As a PTA member your input on programs and funds are valuable. Please join the Executive Board for the PTA.
